Despite working in baby/parenting shops, training as a birth doula, and spending years as an educator, nothing quite prepared me for the random things that I would need to know while becoming a mother myself. My name is Emelin and I am a new mom, educator, and artist who enjoys learning, sharing and just living life plentifully. I felt the need to create this space as a new mom who found herself navigating mom things as I went along. Many times, I found myself in a blank slate when motherhood began for me. There were so many things I went through that no one ever spoke to me about. Things like: sizing your flange for the breastfeeding pump before giving birth, boiling the water for formula before mixing it as recommended by the CDC (because formula isn’t sterile for new borns), the pain of mastitis and so forth. It felt like a wave of information all at once and was definitely a lifestyle adjustment. My goal is to bring these things up so that you learn about it here first and not when you are in the middle of breastfeeding, for example. The truth is, there are SO many books, so many blogs, videos, information, etc… but how do we learn it all? How do we narrow down what we do need to know? There’s truly no way, at least I haven’t experienced that. But, if there’s any way for you to come across some of these typically unspoken topics in a small blog post and it can somehow provide some support, I hope I can achieve just that. Lookout for my next post where I’ll share one of the many things I never imagined researching before the birth of my baby boy. Thank you for being here.
Warmly,
Emelin
